BDS Community Gardens Update - 11 September 2009

Back to News Item List

11/09/2009

11 September 2009

With help of the members of BDS, students from Victoria University and Kangan Batman TAFE we have managed to clear the beds of weeds, condition the soil with mushroom mulch and manure, and sheet mulch with newspaper and pea straw.

Before we got started

After the hard work!

The next step is for the members to agree on what they like to eat so we can know what to plant! Our aim is to have a one full growing season in the current beds before our new site plan is approved and implemented.

The site plan report will be available to download in the next week or so from the website. Please have a read and forward any comments or suggestions you may have to me. We will be working hard to make sure our members have input into the new site design. Part of this process has commenced with members going to visit Horticultural Therapy gardens around Melbourne and giving their feedback to staff.

It is certainly exciting times but our work is not done and we need your help.

Do you have any of the following to donate to our garden?
  • vegetable seeds and seedlings,
  • succulents,
  • newspaper,
  • clear plastic bottles
  • or your time.
If you do please contact me (details below) or drop off to reception.

Thanks
